Tiney Beckles is a member of the JCAN Board of Directors and has had a long and distinguished career in nursing and involvement in the governance of charities in the health sector. Tiney worked at Sunnybrook Medical Centre as a Staff Nurse for 25 years until she took early retirement in 2012. She is also a Clinical Instructor in the School of Health Sciences at Humber College since 2006. Additionally, Tiney was a past president of the Sickle Cell Association of Ontario and was the key person to introduce Sickle Cell Disease as the “first of its kind educational program” to an educational institution, specifically Humber College. Tiney is the proud mother of one son and enjoys traveling and reading. Tiney continues to provide mentorship for numerous young people interested in joining the medical profession and is pivotal in the development of a number of scholarship programs to enable their success. Her tireless commitment to building a stronger community for young people from marginalized communities is admired and respected.
