2015 Recipient: Daidre-Ann Abigale Reece
Daidre-Ann Abigale Reece is a 20-year-old student who was born in Toronto, Ontario to parents from the Caribbean, her father being from Barbados and her mother from Jamaica. Growing up, she was always interested in helping people and decided that a job in the healthcare field was her end goal. Although many people had doubted her, her aspirations were to become a paramedic, and she continued to work towards this goal throughout high school. As she entered her last year of high school, the idea of being a nurse was one that struck her as interesting. She did more research into the career, and realized that this was for her. From there, she received her acceptance into the George Brown College and Ryerson University Collaborative Nursing Degree Program. This has led her to where she is today, a fourth year nursing student at Ryerson University. Her career aspirations include working with those living with mental health issues, and becoming an educator. She continues to strive to do her best in hopes of becoming an advocate for those whose voices are silenced.
