2016 Recipient: Dian Ramnarine
Dian Ramnarine is a second career, fourth year nursing student in the University of New Brunswick – Humber College Collaborative Bachelor of Nursing program. She is a Dean’s Honour List Student, a recipient of Humber’s Nursing Faculty Award and a nominee for the Humber Student Appreciation Award. Dian is able to successfully combine her developing nursing skills and abilities with her previous career knowledge in Human Resources and Career Counselling, in order to effectively support her patients/clients. Dian’s short term goals are focused on medical-surgical and peri-operative nursing. Her long term goals include a desire to obtain a combined Masters degree/Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner education, which she can apply in an international nursing capacity. Additionally, she also hopes to one day utilize her nursing experience; combined with her extensive training, mentoring, presentation and management skills, in a nursing education environment. Dian is a very civic minded student nurse who likes to volunteer in and support her school and local community. She is an active volunteer in the Humber School of Health Science’s (HSHS) annual We Pledge academic integrity program, HSHS’ New Students Orientation programs, and participates as a mentor in the Humber Nursing Society Pros & Pals (student peer mentoring) program. Dian has been a World Vision Child Sponsor from 2000; and a Big Brother Big Sister of Peel volunteer since 2002 (for which she received a City of Mississauga Civic Award of Recognition). She also volunteers at a local community church as a musician.
