2018 Recipients: Rayshell Powell, Karlene Gray and Kerry-Ann Roulston

    

Rayshell Powell’s goal is to become a nurse here in Canada. She attended one of the local institutions and hopes to pursue a career in Healthcare. She exclaimed of how JCAN has empowered her financially as she was more able to meet her tuition commitments. She also recognized the work that JCAN is doing in Jamaica and here in our community and has stated her desire to volunteer in initiatives such as the Not Forgotten Seniors Day Program.

Karlene Gray’s goal is to excel as a nurse and to give the best patient care. She is involved in activities such the Spanish Club, Writers Club, basketball and netball. She displays leadership potential by being involved in Sunday school activities. She is committed to JCAN values, stating “I wish to remain in my country giving back my services and what I have learnt during my tenure. This will help me to give back and provide scholarships and bursaries to persons in need”. Her parents are “farmers and it is sometimes difficult to make ends meet. This scholarship will put less of a burden on her parents”.

Kerry-Ann Roulston’s goal is to become a Pediatric Nurse where she wishes to become an advocate for child care development, both in the private and public sectors in Jamaica. She is involved in activities such as Hall Committee Member, netball, football and Orientation Committee. She displays leadership potential as a Youth Leader at Church. Her has “other children in school and are responsible for other children of poorer circumstance whom they help. The scholarship would be of tremendous assistance to pay for her education in nursing”.
